Tivoli Crescent is a vibrant reimagining of a Victorian townhouse in Brighton, designed to maximise space within a compact footprint across multiple storeys. The project includes a basement conversion, full remodel, loft extension, and a distinctive birds-nest terrace offering panoramic views of the city. The architectural layout provided a strong foundation for expressive interiors, developed in collaboration with a returning client who is an interior specialist.
Externally, the front façade was treated with respect for its heritage character, while the rear elevation makes a bold contemporary statement. The basement conversion involved full excavation and tanking, with natural light introduced through a central lightwell and rooflight above. This intervention required significant structural complexity to achieve a bright and functional space below ground. At roof level, the original three-part structure was reconfigured with a dormer that links the front and rear, creating continuity and enabling the terrace that became a defining feature of the scheme.
The birds-nest terrace was a non-negotiable element for the client, designed to capture exceptional views and provide a private outdoor retreat from the principal suite. Planning consent was secured without issue, reflecting a considered approach to heritage and modernity.
The project was featured in House Beautiful magazine (October 2024), celebrating its creative approach to blending Victorian character with contemporary living. This project marked the second collaboration with the client, who has since commissioned a further scheme following the successful sale of this property.
