Shirley Drive is a bold and contemporary transformation of a 1960s property, delivering a complete architectural reimagining that sets a new benchmark for modern living in the Hove Park area. The design embraces a minimalist yet ambitious aesthetic, combining clean lines with a restrained palette of white brick, render, composite timber-effect cladding, and aluminium roof detailing. This mix of materials creates a refined and timeless character while ensuring the home feels rooted in its leafy suburban setting.
The scheme involves a full reconfiguration of the existing house, including a large two-storey rear extension and two single-storey front additions that dramatically expand the internal footprint. At the heart of the design is an open-plan layout that prioritises light and space, complemented by expansive glazing to the rear elevation. The principal suite is a standout feature, incorporating a vaulted roof and angular windows that frame views across the gardens and flood the interior with natural light. Externally, the gardens have been reworked to enhance privacy and create a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living.
Planning presented challenges around neighbour amenity and density, requiring a carefully considered approach to scale and proportion. We led the design and coordination process, managing structural engineering and survey input to ensure compliance while maintaining the client’s ambition for a high-value, market-leading home. The result is a property that balances elegance with practicality, elevating its resale potential without appearing over-designed.
Shirley Drive exemplifies contemporary house remodelling and extension design in one of Hove’s most desirable locations. By combining architectural ambition with sensitivity to context, the project delivers a home that is both distinctive and commercially astute, setting a new standard for luxury renovation in the Hove Park area.
